Charles was born in Wilmington, NC and graduated from New Hanover High School in 1990. After a few years of working in local restaurants as an aspiring Chef, Charles relocated to Colorado. From Colorado, Charles relocated to Charleston, SC to attend Johnson and Wales University to study culinary arts. As part of his studies, Charles wrote a business plan to open The Sawmill Restaurant in Wilmington. Charles graduated in 1997 and opened the restaurant in 1998.

Alexa was born in Raleigh, NC and made Wilmington her home in 1990 when she came to attend the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She received an accounting degree and worked in Property Management for 8 years before making a move into residential sales with the Cameron Team.
